One Minute Startup News: Fishbrain

Catch of the day Johan Attby, the CEO of Fishbrain, a mobile app and social network for fishing with more than 4 million users.

His company is, in fact, the world’s first app in fish species recognition won the 2012 Slush Startup Competition and since then was on a journey to becoming world’s largest fishing recognition app. With that data they are helping anglers hone in on the best fishing spots, allowing environmental researchers to track endangered and invasive species, and are even working to enable fishery scientists with the insights they need to track species migration patterns. It’s a mass amount of data that are proving invaluable for the industry as a whole – not just fishermen.

Fishbrain is not the first venture of Johan Attby. He made his first exit in 2011 and was awarded “Founder of the year” in Sweden by Nordic Startup Awards in 2015.

If you were at Slush, you may have heard him speak on the topic “Building for Growing Energy Needs & Environmental Consciousness for the Masses,” highlighting Fishbrain’s commitment to tracking rare and endangered fish species.

We believe that Johan is doing a pretty exciting business with Fishbrain, and wish him best of luck.
