Malmö-based startup DBtune, specializing in AI-based database optimization, has successfully secured €2.4M in seed funding led by 42Cap, with participation from prominent investors such as Axeleo Capital, Tiny Supercomputer Investment Company, Exxeta Ventures, JVH Ventures, and angel investors Kingston Duffie, Martin Hell, and Peter Zaitsev. The company’s approach simplifies the tuning process for database instances, utilizing AI to enhance performance and efficiency. This funding will enable DBtune to expand its product offerings, grow its team, and accelerate its mission of redefining database management system optimization.

DBtune, with its pioneering approach, aims to simplify the intricate process of tuning database instances through the power of artificial intelligence. Database management is a complex arena, and the configuration parameters wield substantial influence over performance outcomes. These parameters intricately control how data traverses through an application and interacts with the underlying hardware components — namely, RAM, CPU, and disk.

By harnessing the prowess of AI, DBtune’s flagship cloud and on-premises service empowers users to effortlessly fine-tune their database systems. This, in turn, liberates valuable time for database administrators, enabling them to focus on strategic initiatives that maximize efficiency and productivity. The innovation brought forth by DBtune contributes not only to reduced computing resource demands but also aligns with the principles of Financial DevOps (FinOps), ushering in greater operational efficiency. Furthermore, users stand to curtail their carbon footprint, aligning with their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives.

A product of eight years of rigorous machine learning research and development, DBtune emerged as a spin-off from the prestigious Stanford University and Lund University. This robust foundation ensures the potency of the technology and its transformative impact on the realm of database optimization.

The resounding success of the seed funding round owes much to the support of esteemed institutional investors who share DBtune’s vision. Notable participants in this funding endeavor include 42Cap from Germany, Axeleo Capital from France, Tiny Supercomputer Investment Company from the UK and Germany, Exxeta Ventures from Germany, and JVH Ventures from Germany. The roster of investors also features distinguished angel investors, such as Kingston Duffie from the US, Martin Hell from Sweden, and Peter Zaitsev from the US.

This pool of investors not only infuses capital into DBtune but also contributes invaluable expertise and resources, propelling the company into its next phase of growth. DBtune acknowledges the pivotal support of the Wallenberg Foundation, whose initial funding laid the cornerstone for the company’s inception.

“This funding round will enable us to simplify tuning processes using artificial intelligence, empowering organizations to achieve unmatched efficiency and productivity in their database operations. Our mission is to redefine how businesses approach database optimization. With this funding, we’re all set to expand our product offerings, grow our talented team, and accelerate our journey towards transforming database management. I’m immensely proud of our 7-member team and our advisors who bring diverse expertise in machine learning, database, and cloud technologies,” said Luigi Nardi, Founder and CEO of DBtune.

The successful culmination of the seed funding round sets a new trajectory for DBtune. The injection of capital will be channeled towards refining and expanding the company’s product portfolio. This growth also extends to the team, with plans to onboard fresh talent and expertise. Currently comprising seven individuals, DBtune’s development and sales team boasts a diverse array of skill sets, ranging from machine learning to database and cloud technologies. The team’s strengths are further augmented by esteemed advisors based in the US and Europe, who provide invaluable insights and guidance.

As DBtune embarks on its evolution, it eagerly anticipates welcoming exceptional individuals who share its fervor for reshaping database management system optimization. The company remains unwaveringly committed to delivering transformative solutions that empower businesses to effortlessly optimize their databases, ushering in unparalleled levels of efficiency and performance.
