ConfidentialMind, a Espoo-based generative AI software startup, has raised €1.5 million in a pre-seed funding round aimed at revolutionizing how enterprises and governments deploy generative AI applications. The investment, a combination of equity funding and a loan from the Finnish Government, will enable ConfidentialMind to accelerate its growth and expand its offerings beyond the cloud.

The funding round was spearheaded by Failup Ventures, with significant participation from the Angel CoFund managed by Innovestor and Founder’s Edge. Esteemed industry angel investors also contributed, including Ilkka Hiidenheimo (co-founder of Stonesoft), Jonathan Scudder (co-founder of ForgeRock), Daniel Fried (former GM & SVP EMEA and Worldwide Channel at Veeam), and Jan Goetz and Juha Vartiainen (co-founders of IQM Quantum Computers).

ConfidentialMind’s software is designed to simplify the deployment and management of large language models (LLMs) in enterprise and government data centers. Founded in 2023 by Markku Räsänen (CEO), Severi Tikkala (CTO), and Esko Vähämäki (Chief Architect), the startup addresses the complexities and data protection issues associated with cloud-based AI models by offering an alternative that brings cloud-like ease of deployment to on-premises environments.

“We are grateful to all our investors for believing in us and our vision. This funding round shows that it is possible to build leading AI companies out of the Nordics. We are seeing more and more interest from companies and governments in deploying their own open source generative AI based applications, which tap into their enterprise or sovereign data,” says Markku Räsänen, CEO and co-founder of ConfidentialMind.

ConfidentialMind’s technology supports various data types and sources, facilitating the creation of complex pipelines, closed-loop internal co-pilots, and process automations without the need for extensive bespoke engineering work. The startup’s platform is poised to become an essential tool for enterprises and governments aiming to harness the power of generative AI while maintaining control over their most sensitive data.

With the new funding, ConfidentialMind plans to expand its sales, marketing, and engineering teams, targeting major markets across Europe. The company’s vision of enabling organizations to deploy their own open-source generative AI applications aligns with the growing demand for AI solutions that integrate seamlessly with enterprise and sovereign data.

As ConfidentialMind continues to grow, it aims to offer a comprehensive platform equipped with all the necessary tools for building world-class generative AI applications, further solidifying its position as a pioneer in the AI industry.
