TechHub Working Space Expands To Riga

TechHub, the co-working space for technology startups in the ‘Silicon Roundabout’ area of London, announced yesterday its first international expansion. The new Riga co-working space will offer offer 400 square meters of much of what’s already available in London; it will provide a dedicated co-working space, community gathering point, and international network to product-orientated technology start-ups. TechHub Riga will be opening in January.

The space in Riga will be centrally located at 12 Citadeles iela, and the organizers are already claiming the location will become the center of start-up and technology events in Riga. Open Coffee Club Riga, an organisation with over 330 members, will now become TechHub Riga Meetup and will meet at TechHub Riga once per month as before. Pitch events such as StartupSauna Riga Warmup and LABACA Academy will be held there, as will hackathons, for example Garage48.

Resident membership are running €110 per month, which offers a permanent desk space for all hour access. TechHub Riga will also make available a limited number of special resident memberships for unfunded start-ups at a 50% discount, to ensure they have a good crop of new ideas in the house. Resident members also have full access to other TechHub locations. Annual membership (€360 per year) provides “drop-in” usage of the facility and up to 12 days a year access at other TechHub locations.

You may recognize some of the founding startups at TechHub Riga. They include Amooz, CoBook, Livesheets, MightyFingers, QMinder, Reach.ly, RentMama, SunyRide, and Videoavatars. These include Latvian companies, Pan-Baltic start-ups with at least one member in Riga and UK-based start-ups with development teams in Riga.

I believe there is great value in these physical locations for the creative class to mingle, so hopefully we’ll be writing about new ideas sprung out of this area soon.
