Arbonics, a Tallinn-based naturetech firm dedicated to combating climate change through its innovative forest carbon removal platform, has recently announced securing a significant €5.5 million seed investment from NordicNinja, Plural, and Tilia Impact Ventures. Arbonics specializes in developing a cutting-edge forest carbon removal platform that utilizes advanced technology and data analytics to provide transparent, accurate, and scalable solutions in the fight against climate change. This funding infusion marks a pivotal milestone for the Estonian-based company and will fuel its expansion to meet the burgeoning demand for high-quality carbon removal solutions across the continent.

Since its inception in late 2022, Arbonics has been committed to developing a cutting-edge data and science-driven tool. This technology enables remote assessment of afforestation projects, determining their suitability and environmental impact accurately. By fusing the potential of nature with the prowess of technology, Arbonics has successfully created a transparent, scalable, and verifiable platform for forest carbon removal.

The company’s impressive strides have been evidenced by their collaboration with over 4,000 landowners, overseeing the planting of more than 4 million trees across European markets. Notably, their efforts have gained the trust of a growing number of multinational organizations, underscoring the credibility and efficacy of Arbonics’ approach.

CEO Kristjan Lepik and COO Lisett Luik founded Arbonics in 2022 with a vision to establish a new benchmark for transparency, scalability, and impact within forest carbon projects. This aspiration extends not only to potential investors in forestry initiatives but also to the multitude of landowners seeking to comprehensively evaluate the ecological benefits of their lands.

Recognized globally as an imperative avenue to achieve the Paris Agreement’s targets, carbon removal, especially through forests, occupies a pivotal role. Studies underscore that nature-based solutions could contribute up to 30% of the global mitigation required, with forests accounting for nearly 80% of this contribution. As a result, the demand for nature-based carbon credits has surged exponentially, signaling the market’s rapid growth trajectory expected to reach $150 billion by 2035, up from a mere $67 million just seven years ago.

Arbonics emphasizes the significance of a fundamental shift in forest management practices to realize the full potential of nature-based carbon removal. The intricacies inherent in ecosystem management, coupled with challenges in the Voluntary Carbon Market, underscore the pressing need for enhanced monitoring, verification, and scalable solutions—a void effectively addressed by Arbonics’ innovative platform.

Arbonics’ groundbreaking platform amalgamates over 30 layers of data, incorporating inputs from ground-level sensors, soil analyses, and satellite imagery. This robust technology, coupled with in-house expertise in ecology and forestry, facilitates swift and accurate calculation of land’s carbon removal potential across European countries. From identifying requisite tree species to evaluating their carbon impact, Arbonics’ platform boasts the capability to deliver comprehensive insights within seconds.

The recent injection of €5.5 million in funding catapults Arbonics’ total raised capital to €7.3 million. This investment will be pivotal in further enhancing the company’s product suite, expanding its team, and ambitiously targeting coverage of 50% of European forests in the upcoming year.
