Red Rover Interactive has recently secured over €14 million in a Series A funding round. This significant investment was led by KRAFTON, a major player in the gaming industry which published several notable video game titles including PUBG: Battlegrounds, and included participation from Tirta Ventures, Overwolf, and several existing investors such as The Games Fund, Behold Ventures, GEM Capital, Lifelike Capital, and Acequia Capital. Red Rover is known for its focus on creating innovative and immersive multiplayer experiences, and the funding will enable the studio to accelerate the development of its debut title, ‘Project Coltrane’. This game is set to redefine survival gameplay, offering a fast-paced and replayable PVP experience in a post-apocalyptic train world. The funding will also support the expansion of Red Rover’s team and help establish a strong presence in the market.

Red Rover Interactive, established in 2023, is a game development studio with offices in Oslo, Norway, and Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. Founded by industry veterans from leading companies such as Funcom, Bohemia Interactive, Lockwood Publishing, and Ubisoft, Red Rover focuses on creating innovative multiplayer experiences. The studio emphasizes the transformative power of social interactions and drama in gameplay, viewing players as the most engaging form of content.

Red Rover’s mission is to reimagine the multiplayer gaming landscape by crafting groundbreaking survival experiences that prioritize player agency and immersion. The studio’s development philosophy includes working in small to mid-sized teams, enhancing collaboration through onsite work, maintaining clarity of purpose, and embracing rapid iteration and validation. Red Rover is dedicated to building games in close collaboration with its player community, ensuring that player feedback shapes its development process.

Fred Richardson, Red Rover CEO, says, “Our rapid progress to date can largely be attributed to our commitment to validation driven development, deeply involving our community and content creators right from the get-go. It has been a cornerstone of our development philosophy, ensuring we really focus on the most impactful things to our playerbase over everything else.”

Maria Park, VP, Head of Corporate Development Div. at KRAFTON, comments, “Investing in Red Rover Interactive feels like championing ‘the right people’ crafting ‘the right game’. Their commitment to player-centric, iterative development resonates strongly with PUBG’s ethos, emphasizing player feedback and iterative design. We have had the privilege of witnessing their immersive development approach firsthand during weekly playtests with players and streamers. The remarkable progress demonstrated in each updated build has been a testament to their passion and expertise. Also, drawing from Fred’s experience, the team has ingeniously tackled common challenges in the sandbox survival genre. We’re thrilled to partner with Red Rover and support the team’s vision for Project Coltrane.”

Fred adds, “We’re extremely excited to be working with KRAFTON given their unmatched pedigree in the PVP space. Having them, alongside our other fantastic investors and partners onboard, is incredibly validating for the entire team at Red Rover. This support not only fuels our development efforts but also reinforces our belief in Project Coltrane’s potential to resonate with gamers globally. We’re looking forward to revealing information about the title in the coming months as this train continues to gather pace!”
