Danish B2B SaaS platform secures €2.2M seed to digitalize the canteen industry for good and reduce food waste

Aarhus-based sales and loyalty platform Kanpla has raised €2.2 million in a seed round led by Dutch VC firm HenQ and joined by several angel investors. The startup helps canteens and kitchens improve their digital user journey, increase sales & lower administration. The funding will fuel the startup’s expansion plans, starting from the U.K., Norway and the Netherlands. Kanpla’s target is to set foot also in the U.S. and across Europe in the later years.

Kanpla was started as a school project in 2018 and officially founded in 2019 as a B2B software company (SaaS) that provides an intuitive ordering system targeted at kitchens with returning customers, such as canteens, lunch suppliers, etc. It helps kitchens to reduce food waste by means of greater control and overview of orders and goods. The business is built on the personal relationship between the users and the kitchen. In addition, the platform helps increase customer service and create more revenue in everyday life, with a focus on sustainable and user-friendly tech.

Peter Bæch says, “With data, many canteens can actually optimise their businesses as it allows them to make informed decisions about the types and amounts of food they serve, ultimately saving them money and resources. At Kanpla, we are dedicated to helping canteens succeed in an increasingly challenging market.”

“We believe that Kanpla, with their impressive traction and innovative approach to digitalising an often overlooked industry, has what it takes to be a game-changer in the canteen industry,” says Jan Andriessen, henQ Partner. “At first, the canteen industry can seem obscure, but it’s a big market with huge potential. Many B2B software products have blossomed in seemingly non-obvious markets. Zendesk, one of Denmark’s greatest tech businesses, was founded well before customer success software became a well-defined term. Kanpla can be the same, and that’s what makes them the type of B2B business we’re excited to support.”
