Stockholm-based startup Freshsound has secured €2 million in a seed round led by Zenith Venture Capital and Aligned. The funds will help Freshsound expand globally and lead the commercial music licensing market for commercials, branded content, films, TV, and games. The startup’s platform enables professional storytellers to easily access and license commercially released music for their various productions, including commercials, branded content, film, series, games, and more.

The seed round was also backed by a collection of investors who have experience in music, innovation, product development, and sales including Erik Segerborg (investor and former Executive at Hemnet and Avito), William Olsson (Movie Producer and Director) and existing investors Gustav Nordlindh (Founder and CEO at Royal Streaming), Kristina Tunkrans (former lawyer and copyright expert), and Shiv Prakash (former Vice President of the Investment Team at Hipgnosis Song Management). Freshsound had previously received backing from early investors such as Marcus Konstantino, a partner at HDR Partners, as well as Kim Fai Kok and Dara Gill from Framtid.

“This investment round will help Freshsound to build its pool of professional storytellers in advertising and production, increasing the potential for music creators to make money and for the content creators to make even more impactful content.” says Stevie Gyasi, Freshsound.

“Our investors recognize the importance of our mission to transform the rights process for commercial music. This investment round will help Freshsound to build its pool of professional storytellers in advertising and production, increasing the potential for music creators to make money and for the content creators to make even more impactful content. We’re excited to continue on our journey into the next phase and bring more users to our cause,” said Freshsound CEO Stevie Gyasi.

Caroline Cronstedt, Co-founder and Head of Investments, Zenith Venture Capital, added: “Freshsound has a dynamic plan to build its network of customers, and this investment will help them to achieve their goals and change the way in which licensing of commercial music is done today – while helping artists to be more self-sufficient.”
