The Mighty Eagle Flies Off

Peter Vesterbacka is leaving Rovio, ending the era of ‘The Mighty Eagle’ at the Angry Birds-maker.

Vesterbacka joined Rovio in early 2010 when the company had launched its first Angry Birds game and he has been the global ambassador of the brand ever since, carrying different titles, including ‘The Mighty Eagle’.

“Now it’s a good time to go and do little bigger things. There is a good spirit at Rovio. The gaming business is growing and the movie went well. There are no problems, quite the opposite,” Vesterbacka told Finnish daily Helsingin Sanomat.

Rovio has struggled and cut jobs as the popularity of Angry Birds, the top paid mobile app of all time, peaked around 2012. Last month it launched a major comeback effort — a full-motion picture — which has succeeded at the box-offices around the world.
