Videoplaza Partners With Brightcove For HTML5 Video Monetization

Here’s a little bit of news that gives us a chance to talk about one of the biggest advertising platforms coming out of the region. Videoplaza has partnered with Brightcove to bring HTML5 video monetization support to Vidoplaza’s video ad managament platform. They point out that in the past year, viewership of ad-supported, rights-managed video content on smartphones increased nearly eight times, and tablets have become the go-to mobile devices for viewing episodic video content.

We haven’t covered Videoplaza in about a year, but they’re one of the big ones. In February of 2012 they raised $12 million from Qualcomm Ventures and Innovacom for their sell side ad management platform used to monetise video across PCs, mobile devices, tablets, game consoles, IPTV and Smart TVs. Videoplaza is now headquartered in London with development in Stockholm.

The partnership with Brighcove brings them support for VAST-compliant pre, mid, and post-roll ads, and HTML5 video plugin support for leading ad servers from FreeWheel, Google, Videoplaza and YuMe, which will come in handy as users view more and more video from devices that don’t accept Flash.

Videoplaza also announced this month that they’ve partnered with STV, Scotland’s public service broadcaster. What’s ineresting here is that they’re extending their ad-serving capabilities into YouView set-top boxes provided by YouView internet TV. The service enables users to merge back and forth between catch-up and and live TV from the UK’s freeview channels.

Video advertising is a difficult market to be in considering how rapidly video advertising is moving mobile, and how often devices change. But with last years funding it seems Videoplaza is spreading themselves to logical screens and markets. Definitely a Nordic company to keep a closer eye on.
