Tinkercad Lands $1 Million In Seed Funding

Tinkercad, a Helsinki based company that allows you make solid CAD drawings directly in your browser, announced it has raised $1 million in seed funding from True Ventures and angels Eghosa Omoigui, Taher Haveliwala, jaiku founder Jyri Engestrom, and Joshua Schachter. The browser based service is designed to make 3D printing more accessible to a wider audience.

To keep beginners interested in modeling 3D objects, Tinkercad uses quests to make certain types of items. In An example is “beginner buttons” of which you can see a screenshot below. Once you have made something in Tinkercad you can share it with your friends easily by copying the link in your browser.

You friend can then use the drawing, or tweak it to make it more of their own. When you’re ready to print your object, you only need to download the industry standard STL file to print with any major 3D printer.

On the funding, co-founder and CEO Kai Backman says, “This is an important milestone for our company. We will use the funding to hire more people to further accelerate the development of Tinkercad.”

Tinkercad is apart of the Vigo accelerator program under Lifeline Ventures.
