Stockholm-based analytics platform Steep gets €1 million in pre-seed round co-led by Nordic venture capital firms Alliance and Inventure. The round saw participation from The Nordic Web Ventures, Antler, Spotify alumni network Greens, and a list of renowned angel investors, including Åsa Lidén (COO at Pitch), Peder Stahle (CPO at Kry), Carl Pei (Co-Founder Nothing), and angel collective Framtid. Steep provides a next generation analytics platform to help companies to unblock their analytics process. Swedish startup is planning to use the capital to enhance its product and enlarge its team. The funding will also pave the way for its product launch across Europe and US.

The rise of the modern data stack has revolutionized the collection and cleaning of data. As a result, more companies are getting up and running with their data stack very early. But having data is not enough. The real value is getting it out to all the people across an organization, which is the last mile problem of analytics. Current solutions are either too technical or non-intuitive to use, which means people in the organization constantly need the analytics team to help find and interpret the data.

Steep has built a product that is easy and intuitive to use, where users can customize their dashboards with ready-made widgets and can freely explore and analyze whatever KPIs they want using an intuitive UI that is available both on the web and as an app. For instance, this will help teams stay on top of relevant metrics, allowing them to comment and discuss specific trends in real-time. It enables a structured and opinionated approach to analytics where a few data experts can efficiently serve a vast organization and remove the bottlenecks in building data-driven companies.

Steep, Johan Baltzar“There is a macro trend for workplace SaaS to go from singleplayer and specialist to multiplayer and to involve all roles in the process. Figma has shown this clearly in the design space, where designers are now iterating fluidly with product and tech roles that are deeply involved from start to hand-off. We believe the time is now to make the same journey for the analytics space,” said Johan Baltzar, Steep co-founder and CEO.

“That is why we are very proud to have Alliance and Inventure and a handful of influential angels join Steep’s ambitious mission and be part of our journey building the next generation analytics product for the modern workplace.”

Steep, Alliance Venture, Henrik Torstensson“Johan’s and Nino’s combination of analytics expertise, excellent design skills and startup experience from Kry, Spotify and iZettle make them the perfect duo to build a next generation business intelligence product. Alliance are very happy to back them as they build Steep,” said Henrik Torstensson, Partner at Alliance.

Steep, Inventure, Ekaterina Gianelli“At Inventure, we love experienced founding teams that come out of strong operational roles. In Steep we found just that. By staying product-obsessed and delivering the best-in-class user experience to their customers, Steep can re-invent the way we work with data today,” said Ekaterina Gianelli, Partner at Inventure.
