According to the rumors, the device is going to target the budget end of the market, offering a cheap alternative to Lumia’s. The current name of the phone is “Nokia X” and it is said to be powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, have 512MB of RAM and just 4GB of storage. The phone is expected to arrive with 4.4 KitKat, which is currently the latest release.
Naturally, you will get access to the Google Play store, but there is probably going to be Nokia’s own app store on-board.
Nokia did not confirm any rumors other than providing us with a lot of videos and tweets about green ducks. Can green mean android and ducks – a phone? Maybe.
That being said, it is not the actual phone that is interesting, but the move. Nokia has been long withholding from launching on Android mainly due to the path chosen together with Microsoft. So it is extremely interesting to see them launch an Android phone while mobile division is being acquired by Microsoft. It raises a lot of questions about the future of the devices part of Nokia. Will Microsoft continue with Android or will they shut it down completely and try to focus on the Microsoft OS?
Hopefully we will find out some of the answers from the press conference that you can watch live here.
