Next From Sweden: Flying Plants

Air plants from Sweden. Yes, you read it right. Not a typo. Not an aeroplane. But an air plant – plant that grows in the air.

Flyte – levitating bulb maker from Sweden that we covered a year ago, has started a new Kickstarter campaign – a zero-gravity plant growing system Lyfe.

Lyfe system — which you can still grab for prices starting from $199 — consists of a planter that hovers over an oak base via magnetic levitation. With the magnetic rotation, nutrients are absorbed by the leaves of air plants through the air rather than conventional root system, hence no soil is required for the system.

Lyfe’s Kickstarter campaign has raised so far $182,000, more than twice its target, and the final product is expected to be ‘shipped’ (surely in airmail) in September this year.
