Microsoft snaps up Swedish 3D startup

Microsoft has bought Simplygon, a 10-year-old Swedish developer of automatic 3D-optimization solutions.

“For almost a decade we have worked tirelessly to develop the best 3D data-optimization tech accessible to all. Joining Microsoft and aligning our visions marks a big step forward in our journey,” co-founders of Simplygon said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Swedish firm raised 10 million Swedish crowns in 2013 A round, which was led by SEB Venture Capital.

Simplygon has described itself as a leading provider in 3D game optimization, which remains dedicated to helping creators and users of 3D data across industries to optimize their content pipelines and streamline their workflows.
