Tampere-based SaaS startup Medified has announced that it’s acquired by Mindler, Sweden’s leading digital psychology provider. Together with Stockholm-based Mindler, the MedTech company will continue to offer easy-to-approach and new ways for those who are suffering from a mental issue. The aim is to meet the global demand for effective digital solutions in mental health care.
Medified got acquired by Mindler!
Medified got acquired by a Swedish online psychotherapy provider Mindler. Together with Mindler, the Finnish startup can take the next steps on its mission to tackle mental illness on a global scale.
Every startup has a unique founding story and the WHY. For Medified, it all started with the realization of the lack of systematic treatment monitoring tools in psychiatric care that no one seemed to be actively solving even though the problems occurred on a daily basis. The company’s ambitious vision to make a change to that as medical students and future healthcare professionals led them to found Medified in 2019.
Medified originally built a new digital platform connecting mental health care professionals and patients through a mobile app. The platform fosters a shared understanding and makes mental health treatment more personalized with a patient-centric and data-driven approach which the company believes is the future of mental healthcare. When co-developing the solution together with renowned psychotherapists, physicians, and patients,
Medified realized that its solution was really something that was missing in the current care methods. Already during its early-stage development they discovered that the opportunity is massive. Hearing all these wonderful and encouraging stories from its users and customers on what its solution has offered to them has truly shown the huge positive impact Medified has been able to create in a short period of time.
The heart of its mission was and will always be to help professionals with their demanding duties and people fighting with mental health to find new paths to mental well-being. This is something that it has focused on in its product. Its work has always been guided by the belief that creating effective and scalable digital solutions for mental health care is one of the most worthwhile challenges of its time to overcome.
This was just the beginning
According to the Office for National Statistics, over 10 million adults (1 in 5) were likely to be experiencing some form of depression during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, more than double the pre-pandemic levels in 2019. Meanwhile many professionals still face problems utilizing digital solutions in mental health care which inevitably prevent Medified’s healthcare systems from working to their full potential.
“We are still on the run to solve this problem. But it is relieving to know that we are not on this mission alone. There are many companies that aim to develop modern mental health care and are in a position to make meaningful progress towards it. Much like others, we’ve been watching and admiring Mindler’s work for a while.
When we first met the founders of the Mindler, we were delighted to see how similar values and visions we share. We were convinced of their ways of pushing this matter forward and developing affordable and accessible mental healthcare for all. They saw the potential of our data-driven product and the team behind it. It didn’t take long to realize the synergies of our services and things eventually fell in place quite rapidly.”
Today’s announcement means Medified has the opportunity to take what they’ve learned at Medified and bring their efforts to a whole new level with Mindler. The whole team of 7 will continue their work and mission onwards at Mindler.
“We can’t think of a better home for us and are beyond excited to ramp up development within the new organization.”
Mindler makes strategic acquisition of the medtech company Medified
Mindler, which are valued at SEK 2.85 billion, acquires Medified and thereby strengthens the team with Medified’s team of software and business developers of a total of seven people. Medified will be an integrated component of Mindler’s platform and enable a more data-driven approach to treatment planning, mental health assessment, monitoring and operational support as well as evaluation of treatment results.
Mindler, one of Europe’s leading mental health treatment platforms, today announced the acquisition of Medified Solutions Oy, a medtech startup based in Tampere, Finland. Medified was founded by medical students in 2019 and has since developed and clinically implemented a digital software for monitoring mental health.
At Mindler, data is a high priority area. In early studies conducted for its insurance company customers in the Netherlands, the company can see that its treatments help 80 percent of patients to a significantly better mental health. Overall, it is very effective in treating patients with severe symptoms, especially depression, anxiety and cognitive problems.
“The acquisition of Medified drives our ability to further measure treatment outcomes and allows Mindler to further explore and gain insights on how we can perfect our digital treatment programs to deliver on Mindler’s vision – to make the most effective treatment for mental illness accessible to all.” says Krim Talia, CEO of Mindler.
Mindler’s goal is to strengthen the world with better mental health and this requires that they build a digital treatment platform that provides the best treatment results for mental health per invested krone, euro or dollar. In a society where healthcare costs are rising rapidly, governments will need to invest their healthcare budget in the actors who can deliver the best treatment results that can be bought for money.
Mindler is determined to be that player in the field of mental health. Mental illness is a gigantic societal challenge and today every fourth person suffers from mental illness at some point in their lives, where there is twice as much risk for women as men. Today, the global economy loses more than $1 trillion a year due to depression and anxiety. Therefore, the need to address this challenge is urgent.
Medified’s unique data sources provide mental health care with the objective data needed to measure clinically validated treatment outcomes and the creation of valuable patient-focused tools, for psychologists to use in decision-making on treatment processes and in assessing patients’ recovery.
“The entire Medified team is super happy to be part of the Mindler family. Today’s announcement means that we have the opportunity to take what we have built and learned at Medified to increase our impact to a whole new level with Mindler.” says Valtteri Korkiakoski, CEO of Medified.
“Solving global challenges in mental health requires ambition and innovation. Together with Mindler, I now believe that a change in care is one step closer to that goal.”
Mindler is a digital healthcare provider in mental health. Mindler provides access to fast and efficient treatment through an app, where patients can book video calls with psychologists.
The blended treatment model is a combination of 25-minute video calls with psychologists and digital self-help programs (ICBT programs), which are available in the app. The programs consist of exercises that allow the patient to continue their treatment outside of the conversations and they can either be carried out independently or with the support of a psychologist.
Mindler was founded in Sweden in 2018 by two psychologists, Rickard Färdig and Johannes Hatem, as well as the doctor / entrepreneur Rickard Lagerqvist and is currently active in Sweden, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
