Maria 0-1, MariaZeroOne, opened downtown Helsinki with a high-profile opening party late on Thursday.
The venue is likely to become the largest Nordic startup hub as its spans across former Maria hospital area, with many of the key players in Helsinki ecosystem – like ArcticStartup or Inventure – have either moved in or will move in over coming weeks and months.
“Maria 0-1 will be the centre for events and players driving the growth, as well as being a supporting community for new growth companies,” said Voitto Kangas, director of the venue. “We want to create the meeting point where the ambition will meet the latest technology know-how as well as the drive to succeed internationally.”
By the end of the year, Maria 0-1 will be home for 60 startups, and for selected investors and accelerators. Several investors have premises there too, including Superhero Capital and Butterfly Ventures.
The refurbishing of the buildings will continue well into 2017.
The company running the venue is owned by the City of Helsinki, startup foundation Startup-säätiö and NewCo Helsinki (Uusyrityskeskus).
ArcticStartup opened its office mid-August. We are on the ground floor on your right as you enter the yard from the main entrance on Lapinlahdenkatu 16. Do stop by to share your stories.
