With the second Helsinki-based acquisition announcement for the day, Tribe Studios announces it’s been picked up by Palringo, the UK based company calling themselves the world’s largest network of mobile gaming communities.
You’ll know Tribe Studios in the Helsinki community for their patented Dramagame technology, which provided a different take on gaming compared to the rest of Helsinki’s mobile games. Instead, it’s truly multiplayer. Through Dramagame’s Velvet Sundown you assumed a role, perhaps a ripped sailor on a fancy yacht, and you bring in your character’s perspective in multiplayer role playing. With multiple people bringing in their own characters’ asymmetric motives, there are unlimited possible outcomes possible based on player decisions, kind of like a chat-based… drama game.
The chat-based technology has also been used in a less sexy manor with Aalto Game, through one of their partners, where you and your avatars can simulate agile business practices and teamwork together.
Elina Arponen, Founder of Tribe Studios, says in a statement, “We are very excited to join Palringo. In the chat environment we can really focus on the core elements of Dramagame and exceed player expectations. This is a great opportunity to build the next paradigm of mobile gaming.”
