Finnish Gaming Hot: PlayRaven Grabs €1.7 Million Seed

Finnish game studio PlayRaven announces today the company has raised a €1.7 million seed investment. Investors in the company include Creandum as well as Supercell seed investors Jari Ovaskainen and London Venture Partners, as well as other private investors.

The team behind PlayRaven has background from companies like Remedy Entertainment, Wooga and Digital Chocolate, and the team says they hope to ‘disrupt’ the current games market by offering “completely new kinds of themes, art styles and game mechanics in the strategy games genre.”

PlayRaven CEO Lasse Seppänen comments, “The number of tablets and smartphones now exceeds the total number of television sets on the planet. We believe this massive audience can no longer be served with a ‘one size fits all’ approach. New mobile gaming audiences with diverse tastes are out there, waiting to be served.”

Their first title is called Spymaster, and is planning on a global release this spring. In the game, players take control of a network of Allied undercover agents to undermine the Axis plans for world domination. Screenshots released of the game make it appear to be card based as you train and send your spies on missions.

Additionally this spring the team will start work on another title. PlayRaven was founded in 2013, and appears to be hiring.
