Are you interested in opening a business in Finland? Or do you wish to boost your existing business operations? Would you like to learn more, be inspired by other female entrepreneurs, get new and valuable connections and find your inner entrepreneurial strength?
On Monday, June 6 we gather to the Helsinki City Hall to meet like-minded women and learn about entrepreneurship. The event takes place from 12.00 to 16.00.
We have gathered an awesome crowd of inspiring, experienced and knowledgeable women to talk about this valuable subject.
Nasima Razmyar (born 13 September, 1984, Kabul) is the Deputy Mayor of Helsinki, responsible for Education. Deputy Mayor Razmyar serves as the chairperson of the Education Committee and is a vice chair of the City Board. She has been a member of the City Council since 2012.
Ms. Razmyar was elected to the Finnish Parliament in 2015. She left the parliament in June 2017 in order to take the position of Deputy Mayor of the City of Helsinki. On the previous Deputy Mayor term she was responsible for Culture and Leisure. Nasima Razmyar holds a Bachelor of Humanities degree in Community Pedagogy from HUMAK University of Applied Sciences (2013) and a Master of Culture and Arts degree from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
We hear more on how to start a business in Finland by Kati Lappeteläinen, Head of business program of Startup Refugees. Startup refugees has helped people to start companies and find employment in Finland since 2015.
Pamela Spokes, Founder, Discover Design Do is a service designer and teacher who is passionate about designing impactful user experiences and teaching others how to do the same. Using her diverse skillset, she helps others to design better services – whatever their business is. She will talk about what you need to be successful as an entrepreneur in Finland.
Sallamaari Muhonen, a long time PR and marketing professional, journalist, keynote speaker and non-fiction writer will talk about how Marketing is more: so much more than just advertising or social media! She will lead us through the basic practices of b2b and b2c marketing.
Fadumo Ali, Espoo’s Entrepreneur of the year 2021 will share her incredible success story of how her company Hoiwa Oy has grown in just two years to employ over 2500 healthcare professionals with a turnover of 4,2m€.
Amina and Hodan Mohamed will lead us to a group work on empowerment, believing in yourself and putting that to use in entrepreneurship. Amina Mohamed is the founder of Qj-Diasporassa. She educates companies and communities in integrating diversity into their functions, and benefit from it. Hodan Mohamed is an equality expert and one of the founders of Hodan ja Halla.

#Challenges
How does it work?
You arrive on Friday, find your team and get to work on one of the several “challenges” put together by hackathon partners. The challenges will range from topics such as crypto to technologies such as machine learning or the multiverse. You are free to choose the challenge you want to compete in.
What are the challenges?
All challenges and their individual prizes provided by partners will be published on the website by mid-May. Remember that you do not need to choose your challenge when applying to the event, you will choose the challenge later – or even at the event itself.
Challenge winners and their prizes are determined by the partner companies.
What about participating in multiple challenges?
Nope. Choose!
What are the prizes?
Main prize for the hackathon winning team is 5 000€ in cash, powered by our partners Ubiquity! In addition to the main prize, the challenge partners give out individual prizes to the best ideas in each challenge. Challenge prizes typically range from the company’s products to cash.

2022 MARKS THE 10TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONFERENCE. DURING THESE TEN YEARS EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED. AND SURPRISINGLY LITTLE. AFTER A DECADE OF EXPLORING THE WORLD OF DIGITAL WE CAN CONCLUDE:
THE NEXT BIG THING TAKES TIME. URGENCY DOESN’T EQUAL SPEED.
IN 2022, WE’LL KEEP GETTING JIGGY WITH SYSTEMS AND NICHE TRENDS ALIKE. THE ABSURD AND THE TANGIBLE. THE IDEALISTIC AND THE REALISTIC. THE PROBLEMS AND THE SOLUTIONS.
BECAUSE IN THESE CLASHES – LIES THE NEXT BIG THING.
THE CONFERENCE
The Conference is a two-day conference where curious minds from all over the world meet to delve further into the promises and pitfalls of digital development and the human and machine relationship. Over two days we explore the complexity of systems. The micro and macro of it all. Societal changes. Niche trends. Human behavior. Art and culture. The future and the past. Stuff like that. The sessions are carefully curated to help you connect the dots between the widespread topics.
We also run a parallel side event program with workshops, food, masterclasses and festivities from which you can customize your own experience.
WHO’S YAPPING?
We invite speakers from all over the world representing a wide range of disciplines. On stage you can expect to find anything from brain scientists and activists to design experts, chefs and artists who will cover topics like AI, sociology and outer space. Think of it like a mix between your favorite arts museum and your best friend’s best thoughts. For reference, have a look in our grand video archive with 300+ recorded talks from previous years.
WHO’S ATTENDING?
The Conference goers represent a wide range of industries and expertise but to give you a hint one could describe the crowd as a mix of communicators of all kinds, creatives and executives with a common interest in digital practices and how the world works. There are product developers, architects, publishers, designers, culture workers, corp and public executives, librarians, organizers, creatives and probably a whole lotta more. We ourselves, of course, believe it to be a great mix and a good foundation for interesting conversations with peers and peers-to-be alike.
PRACTICALITIES
Malmö is located in the very south of Sweden, only 15 minutes away from Denmark and Copenhagen Airport. If you’re flying in from another country, we recommend you to book your flight to CPH Airport. Yes, to Denmark, no joke. From there, you travel to Malmö and Sweden by train. It only takes 20 minutes for you to arrive in the city center, close to the venue, the hotels and the hospitable warmth of the Malmöites.,
VENUE
More information coming soon 🙂
THE MALMÖ
Never satisfied, ever debated, always engaging. Malmö is a character of its own: a visionary city with a strong will and the confidence to go its own way. This not particularly royal, southern pearl of Sweden is a huge part of what The Conference is all about. Those who’ve been here before knows this very well, and those who haven’t are in for a pleasant surprise.
Malmö has been Swedish since the Danes gave it back to us in 1658. Nowadays there is a really nice bridge connecting Malmö to Copenhagen. In recent years, Malmö has made an amazing journey from industrial city to international center for innovation and culture.
Malmö might be small in size, but its rich cultural scene and vibrant urban life makes it feel like something much bigger.
The best part of being “not that big”? Rent a bike or take a walk, virtually everything is near. It is the city of youth and diversity. 50 percent are younger than 30 and collectively, the people of Malmö speak 176 different languages. Welcome to our Malmö!
THE PROGRAM
As always, we seek to explore who sets the agenda, what changes the playing field and how we all can shape society and business from now on. All in all, we tend to look a lot at systems. The program is a parallel track format with a bunch of keynotes in between, all carefully curated to help you connect the dots.
The program will be launched during Spring, but if you’re curious, have a look at 2019’s version to get a feeling.
THE SPEAKERS
Amazingly talented humans from all over the world – from different spheres and of different opinions – will share their intriguing projects and mind-blowing theories to help you navigate the complexity of now and beyond. Practically speaking, expect anything from neuroscientists to economists to artists to chefs.
Speakers will be announced continuously during Spring. While waiting, do get lost in our huge video archive with recorded talks from previous years.

SIDE EVENTS
Whereas The Conference is two days of super curated talks at Slagthuset, the side event program is more of a pick and choose kind of venture. It’s what we call our “off conf” program with a mix of masterclasses, workshops, dinners and social events – all signed, sealed and delivered by speakers from The Conference and brilliant minds from our community. Simply put: The side event program is your alibi to stay in town a bit longer and get to know the Malmö community – or for busy non-conf goers to have a small bite anyhow.
The side event program will be launched during Spring.

EMBRACING INNOVATION
August 25
– Science to Business
– Practical Startup Skills
– Pitching Competitions
– sTARTUp Night
The Embracing Innovation program on August 25 is packed with practical knowledge on how scientific advances and new technologies shape the future of business in various sectors.
From science to business
When research, business, talent and life come together, it shortens the way from idea to solution. But how to turn scientists into entrepreneurs? Sharing his expertise is, among others, Lauri Reuter (Nordic FoodTech VC), who may just as well be called an expert in the future of food. He has a PhD in biotechnology and is a scientist-turned-investor and a founder of the first foodtech focused VC fund in the Nordics.
I was surprised by the high quality of local and international startups presented at the event. Months later, I am still in touch with entrepreneurs and investors that I met in Tartu, which is of big value. – Magda Lukaszewicz, Investment Associate, Balderton Capital
The future of mobility
From solar cars to air taxis, one thing is for sure – the future of mobility will strive towards environmentally friendly transportation. And innovative solutions in this field are numerous! Eduardo Dominguez Puerta (Vertical Aerospace) talks about launching the world’s first commercial flying taxis, whereas Mari-Ly Klaats (Auve Tech) focuses on autonomous vehicles and Kristel Leif (Solaride) on solar cars.
However, technology is often a few steps ahead of the law. Taavi Rõivas (Auve Tech), Indrek Gailan (Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications), and Pirko Konsa (Modern Mobility) discuss how government can foster innovation in mobility. The panel will be moderated by Maarja Rannama (ITS Estonia).
Entertainment industry skills
Experts from various fields – such as gaming (Elisabet Gretarsdottir from DICE, Kristina Lasenko with ex-FB gaming background; Ott Ozolit who’s ex-Ubisoft), animation (Ben Kalina and Will Feng from Titmouse), cyber safety (Mihkel Tikk from Estonian Ministry of Defence) – will be giving all of us a peek behind the curtain of their respective businesses, plus the skills, experiences, and personal stories unlike any other that have made them as successful as they are.
The sTARTUp festival is amazing – I just can’t believe how well organized it is! I mean it’s like I’m in New York or London.
– Hermione Way, Brand Consultant & Former Head of European Communications at Tinder
sTARTUp Night
Legendary sTARTUp Night wraps up the first conference day. The afterparty is bringing together the coolest festival visitors, good music, and lots of surprises! We believe that the best ideas and deals come when business meets celebration, which is why at sTARTUp Day you will find a unique blend of practical knowledge and a festival atmosphere.
EMPOWERING ENTREPRENEURSHIP
August 26
– Inspirational Keynotes
– Entrepreneurial Impact
– Mental Health
– Self-Development
There is a graveyard full of startups that didn’t manage to get from initial traction to sustainable high growth. Many of them tried to sprint through the growth valley of death by focusing solely on top line growth. This keynote speech by Patrick Flesner (LeadX Capital Partners) will introduce you to the FastScaling growth methodology, and will help you avoid some typical growth-related mistakes many founders make.Inspiration
Mountaineer Krisli Melesk, the first Estonian woman to reach the highest peak in the world, will share an inspiring story about her journey to the top of Mount Everest, whereas Wim Hof Method instructor Laura Hof will focus on mental fortitude. Moving on from mother nature to deep tech, Pauliina Martikainen, who is the investment director of Maki.vc, shares the insights about the state of femtech, including how investors are sleeping on the opportunities within this sector.
Entrepreneurial impact
In a time of immense greed, waste and climate change, social entrepreneurship has emerged to the spotlight as a way to battle the deterioration of the planet. After all, where else are we going to live? From vegan milk to food out of thin air, the latest innovations and most recent trends in foodtech will be brought to you by Tuure Parviainen (Volare), Will van den Tweel (Those Vegan Cowboys), Ben Holden (Whywaste), and Zhang Shilei (Solar Foods).
Mental health & psychology
Life of an entrepreneur can be fascinating and rewarding, yet often stressful. How to align your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being? Sharing their expertise will be Keith Wakeman (SuperBetter), Joe Schaeppi (12traits), Kadri Haljas (Triumf Health), Jin Han (Globus International), Marcel Gasser (.Cocoon Ventures) and Hristo Neiland (.Cocoon Ventures).
A buzzing event, full of energy, excellent pitches, great speakers and loads of passion. I loved being part of sTARTUp day!
– David Beckett, Pitch Coach at Best3Minutes
Founder’s skills
Starting a startup is hard as hell. What are the seven mistakes to avoid? How do you choose a co-founder? How to grow as a founder? How to successfully scale startups? Aiming to arm first-time startup founders with practical knowledge are Christoph Klink (Antler VC), Marcel Poelker (Taledo), and many others.
sTARTUp Pitching
We’re bringing to you the brightest startups in the region looking for investments in various pitching competitions! The grand finale of these is our annual sTARTUp Pitching where the TOP 5 startups compete for a €200k investment, €10k equity-free cash and other prizes.

SHIFT BUSINESS FESTIVAL 2022 PROGRAM THEMES
LEADERSHIP IN DIGITALIZED WORLD
The rapid changes the whole world has gone through in the last few years have brought the importance of leadership and change management to the forefront. As we are finding new ways to lead in a changing landscape and reshaping leadership for growth, we need to ask: what is the role of leadership in tomorrow’s organizations? Future leaders need to be inclusive and make an effort to recognize the strengths, motives, and competitive advantages of people in their organizations. In the fast-paced world we live today, long-term growth is created by understanding the value of people in the organization. At SHIFT we will discuss how to drive organizations through disruption and most importantly how to reconnect humans and technology creatively to drive future growth.
CLIMATE CHANGE AND TECHNOLOGY
Climate change is not an if or when question anymore. There is no doubt that we have a crisis in our hands, but with the biggest crisis comes also the biggest opportunities. The inevitable change demands us to shift our focus on innovative ways to navigate through the crisis and find solutions to create a sustainable future for our planet and us. Branding your business as sustainable is not enough anymore as the role of businesses in tackling the climate crisis is undeniable. At SHIFT we will tackle this crisis by facilitating discussion on how to be part of the solution with innovations and technology. The time for change is not tomorrow, it is now.
