Stockholm-born Done closes €700K in a seed round led by Almi Invest. The startup is Europe’s first gig platform for qualified craftsmen that facilitates consumers’ home improvement projects from start to finish. The funding will help Done focus on marketing, especially in Sweden, and accordingly, enlarge its team. Done is targeting to boost sustainability by offering the next-generation mobile marketplace for home improvement and repair services and encouraging people to choose renovation rather than getting rid of things.

Founded in 2019 by entrepreneurs Malin Granlund and Alek Åström, Done is Europe’s first gig platform for qualified craftsmen that facilitates consumers’ home improvement projects from start to finish. Just as Kry and Uber transformed their industries before it, Done brings a new customer experience to what is Europe’s most complained about service industry. After growing by over 500% in the second half of 2022, Done is now closing a Seed round of €700k led by Almi Invest.

Since its start in 2019, Done has made it easier to hire craftsmen through its platform. According to the Swedish Consumer Agency, the home improvement industry is the most complained about year after year, and here Done has developed a winning concept to reverse the trend. In the Done app, consumers can quickly get in touch with quality-controlled craftsmen to get a quote through video calls, and Done is then there all the way through the app to help facilitate a more secure renovation process. Now they will soon put a record year behind them where they have grown by over 500% in the last six months alone.

Done, Malin Granlund“We are very proud of our growth journey and are currently tracking on an annual turnover of over SEK 30 million. The early investment in our technical platform has allowed us to quickly scale up our network of quality-controlled craftsmen and now we have enormous strength in being able to offer craftsmen in selected categories all over Sweden. At the same time, our laser focus on having the industry’s most satisfied customers has paid off with a 4.9/5 rating on completed projects.” says Malin Granlund, CEO, and co-founder of Done.

As one of Europe’s largest consumer industries, the home improvement industry has a turnover of over €300 billion annually. 80% of these home improvement businesses are small, local businesses with fewer than 10 employees that largely lack digital work systems. Digitization has lagged behind and left customers missing the seamless digital purchasing process they are used to from other industries.

Done, Alek Åström“Through our investments in the technical development of a completely digital work system, we have been able to make it easier for craftsmen to focus on what they do best, their craft. For customers, this in turn means a modern and transparent user experience where all communication and planning with the craftsman takes place directly in the app and not through a combination of emails, texts, and invoices through the post.” explains Alek Åström, co-founder and product manager.

In order to scale up further, Done has now closed an investment round of €700k led by the Nordic VC Almi Invest.

Done, Almi Invest, Jens Bäckbom“We have followed Done for some time and are impressed by what Malin and Alek have achieved, they have shown great tenacity and ingenuity and we look forward to being part of the journey.” says Jens Bäckbom, Executive Advisor at Almi Invest AB.

Done is currently in over 15 cities in Sweden, and their Seed investment will primarily be used to scale up marketing within Sweden and strengthen the marketing team.

“The focus now is on achieving profitability in Sweden, after which we will plan for international expansion at the end of 2023. We are seeing a shift in the market from larger luxury renovations where kitchens and bathrooms in good condition are thrown out, to consumers increasingly wanting to renovate cost-effectively and more sustainably, for example by replacing the bathroom interior or repainting kitchen doors. These types of mini renovations are perfect for our app where the focus is on the processes to run quickly and smoothly. With the industry’s highest customer rating, Done’s vision is to become Europe’s largest and most loved platform for renovations,” says Malin.
