Ask.fm, the Latvian based social network that only let’s you post when you are asked a question reached the 100 million users milestone last Monday. Since then, they have grown to 104 million users, as you can see on their page. They also announced that over 25 billion answers have been answers on the site to date, with over 1 billion being answered a month. That makes it one of the biggest social networks in the world, and they are just around the corner.
The mainstream media often mainly concentrated on cyberbullying and suicides that have been linked to Ask.fm and not on the fact that this is one of the fastest growing social networks in the world that is coming out of tiny Latvia.
That being said, as a part of the announcement, Ask.fm, also introduced Safety Centre, in an effort to address some of the aforementioned issues. The new part of the site focuses on explaining how Ask.fm works and how one can protect himself/herself or their child. For example it explains that you can in fact stop receiving anonymous questions or that you can in fact report inappropriate content on profiles.
At the most recent Arctic15, the company disclosed their visitor numbers and investor for the first time. At the time it was one million uniques a day. Since then, the numbers have grown more than six fold, reaching almost seven million unique visitors in a single day or about 190 million uniques a month.
We also have to take the look at their growth. Since last Monday, the amount of users grew by 4%, or more than 500 000 users a day. This is a dream statistic for any startup out there and when we last inquired, some sources confirmed that the company is already profitable, which could not be said of many today IPO’d social networks for a very long time.
