A €6.1 mln seed round for KRY of Sweden

Swedish telemedicine practice KRY has raised 6.1 million euros for its international expansion from Index Ventures, Creandum and Project A.

KRY, which is currently available only in Sweden, said it will announce entry into new markets over coming months. It called funding round “a seed round,” hence making it quite unusual scale seed round for a Nordic startup.

Stockholm-based KRY launched in 2015, and over 30,000 Swedes use the platform.

There is a vast number of similar startups on the market, but investors said KRY model was strong and proven. “Even before this round of funding, KRY reached a pace of patient meetings that is truly impressive, even on a Pan-European level,” said Fredrik Cassel, Partner at Creandum.

Traction game

“We have been very impressed at the traction the KRY team has achieved with their well-designed and patient-centric mobile experience. Healthcare at the primary care level has not fully benefited from technology innovation,” said Ben Holmes, Partner at Index Ventures.

According to research firm CB insights digital health startups received $2 billion worth of investment in the first quarter of 2016, marking it as a record year for funding. In 2015, the sector startups raised $4.5 billion, compared to just $1 billion in 2011.
