Arctic15 is the premier industry event for Nordic and Baltic startup and growth companies. The conference was organised for the first time last year with some 400 people attending it. This year, we’re improving on many fronts and Arctic15 will be over the two days in October.
A big part of the conference is also the startup competition we’re putting together. Last year we had 15 awesome companies on stage pitching themselves. However, what’s more interesting is the fact that these 15 companies raised $12.85 million in funding in just 10 months since the last conference. Naturally we can’t take credit of this for ourselves, but I think it suggests that the best companies in the Nordics and Baltics are present at Arctic15.
The two biggest rounds of funding were to Kiosked ($5.5 million) and Mancx ($3 million). Nevertheless, outside of these the 8 companies raised some $4.35 million.
Of the 15 finalists last year, 10 raised funding and 5 did not. Of the five, one company is already making money so they’re not in the need for funding. Between the 10 companies, the average funding round was $1.285 million in size.
The finalists in last year’s presenting order were: Tribe Studios, Conferize, Transfluent, Campalyst, 46 elks, Mancx, Streamtainment Systems, 300mg, Fishare, Kiosked, Meetin.gs, Graduateland, Holvi, Achoo and Mepin/Meontrust.
This year the startup competition will be a little different. We will have 15 categories for competing startups. The application period is now open for the categories and the winners of those categories will get to pitch on stage for the grand prize of €15 640, currently. Currently, because the prize money can go up as new companies support the winner with their donations of prize money or products.
The application period is open until the end of August. Between the 3rd and 7th of September the public can vote on the companies and help decide on the winner. Category winners will be announced on 10th of September and they’ll be on stage at Arctic15 on October 18th.
