Tampere game studio raises $2.7 mln

Tampere-based Traplight, the developer of Big Bang Racing mobile game, said on Thursday it has raised $2.7 million from Korea Investment Partners and other investors to further grow its team.

Traplight – which brings user-generated content to mobile games – launched its first game Big Bang Racing in July 2016. Big Bang Racing was a small hit, making it to the top 1o of download charts in 81 countries, according to App Annie research firm.

“We are taking all the learnings from our ‘first born’, and putting them to use with the new projects. The games we create explore the different aspects of user creativity, and harness that creativity into super engaging gameplay. Traplight’s games keep on breaking and bending the boundaries of what we think is possible on the mobile platform,” Traplight’s CEO Riku Rakkola said in a statement.

Led by gaming focused VC investor Korea Investment Partners, the latest round of funding – which increases Traplight’s total funding to $5 million, included previous investors Sunstone Capital and Finnvera, as well as angel investor Shukri Shammas. Korea Investment Partners has previously invested in mobile game companies such as Seriously, Super Evil Megacorp. and Huuuge Games.

“Traplight is doing something remarkable by bringing player created content and levels into the core of the gaming experience. We are impressed by their vision and dedication to making something new in the mobile games space,” said Korea Investment Partners director Sang-Ho Park.
