Serious Gaming Cluster Finland partners with Borderless Healthcare Group to develop health gaming in Asia

A network of game developers, Serious Gaming Cluster Finland, is partnering with Borderless Healthcare Group to tap the development and distribution of health care games in China and the rest of Asia. According to SGC and BHG the multi-trillion dollar elderly community requires urgently a new set of interactive tools to spice up their lives. Their vision is that soon over 200 million elderly people in China would be able to enjoy a series of health care games – which may influence on their mental and physical wellness.

To support the development of interactive health care practices, BCG opened recently a ‘serious games’ -section in their Borderless Innovation Center in Shanghai. From the beginning of June 2015, the center will start organizing incubation and acceleration programs, hackathons and demo days for members of SGC. Together they want to develop, accelerate and distribute games in the region through several channels such as nursing homes, high-tech caregiver networks and home care networks.

“The new elderly audience may actually have a high appetite for games especially when games access is facilitated by high-tech caregivers within the Borderless Healthcare Group Eco-system,” says Matti Kuha, the Chairman of SGC.

Kuha emphasizes that this is the first international major partnership for SGC. They’re excited to be developing Finnish game design into meaningful products and services – and creating a platform for sustainable new growth.

“The so-called Silk Road for Finnish gaming companies is opening up. We at SGC believe that the future of gaming is purpose driven and what we have seen up until now has been just practice. With partners like BHG the new generation of games and game based services will help millions of people around the world,” Kuha estimates.
