Nordea launches an accelerator for Nordic FinTech startups

Nordea, a financial services group in Northern Europe, announces starting an accelerator program for Nordic FinTech startups in autumn 2015. The application period for the program starts on July 13th, and the program is arranged in cooperation with Nestholma.

Jussi Mekkonen, the Deputy Head of Banking at Nordea, says that they’re searching for 10 to 15 startups to help the company to innovate new digital services.

“Our goal is especially to strengthen our leader position in online services in the Nordics. We are primarily looking for new innovations in topics such as connecting with our customers, payment services and saving opportunities,” describes Mekkonen.

The program duration is three months, and all participants will have the possibility to work at Nordea’s facilities in Helsinki. Each team will also get their own mentor from the company.

“The accelerator gives startups an unique opportunity to work in close cooperation with our best professionals. At the same time, we’ll get to learn new working methods and receive new perspectives from the teams – And of course we want to create innovations for our customers and possibly continue working together with the startups after the program,“ says Mekkonen.

The two-month application period starts on July 13th through Nestholma. The startups accepted in the program will start working at Nordea in November.

Alongside Nordea’s coaching, Nestholma will participate in supporting the startups with investments. The program is also present in Slush Hacks –event in November, where they might accept 1-2 startups more in the accelerator.
