Offerilla Fills Groupon Size Hole In Finland

Groupon closed its business in all Nordics countries in November 2015, leaving behind a market gap in the region.

To fill that gap – especially in Finland – Helsinki-based Offerilla launches an online platform for daily regional offers.

“At the beginning, our concept will be pretty similar what Groupon did in Finland. Later this year our goal is to develop Offerilla as a hub for all offline and online offers, not just local deals which we have at the moment,” tells Mikko Ollikkala, the CEO and co-founder of Offerilla, who is also the co-founder of the most followed Finnish health platform FitFashion.fi.

In the Nordics, Finland was the only country without any offer platforms in the Nordics before Offerilla’s launch. There’s competition in other Nordic countries though, but the competition is relatively low comparing the days when the Groupon was still operating in those markets, Ollikkala says.

With the team of former Groupon employees, including the former Finnish country manager Risto Juntunen, the company uses all its previous experience of the business in their new startup. The goal of the company is to take over the Finnish market during year 2016 – and then expand elsewhere.

“One of the most important lessons we have learned is that we know what kind of deals we have to make in order for them to sell well,” says Ollikkala.
